AIA is committed to promoting equal employment opportunities for persons with disabilities (PWDs) to create a more inclusive Hong Kong. The Company recently received several awards in recognition of its achievements in the area.
Talent-Wise Employment Charter and Inclusive Organisations Recognition Scheme
The Talent-Wise Employment Charter and Inclusive Organisations Recognition Scheme (The Scheme) is jointly organised by the Labour and Welfare Bureau, the Rehabilitation Advisory Committee, the Joint Council for People with Disabilities and the Council of Social Service with the aim of promoting the employment for PWDs and creating inclusive workplaces. AIA won the “Friendly Employment Award” and the “Outstanding Inclusive Team Award” in the Scheme of 2017-18.
The “Friendly Employment Award” recognises inclusive organisations which utilise the ability of employees with disabilities effectively and thus unleashing their potential and facilitating their sustainable development; and encourage their business partners to employ PWDs. AIA has set up a MPF customer service team and recruited Ms. Gigi Yiu, who is hearing and vocally impaired, as a customer service associate to serve customers with hearing disabilities using sign language. She also inspired AIA to develop a sign-language video-call service that enables customers with disabilities to manage their MPF or make MPF investments enquiries at home.
The “Outstanding Inclusive Team Award” recognises those teams which actively build an inclusive working environment to assist PWDs to adapt and integrate into the workplace. With a view to building an inclusive workplace, AIA has joined hands with several non-profit organisations to offer workshops for employees to improve their communication skills with PWDs. Meanwhile, AIA provides appropriate and adequate support for employees with disabilities with the goal of creating an outstanding inclusive team.
Life Driver Selection
AIA also received the “Friendly Corporation Award” at Bamboos Life Driver Selection 2017 in recognition of its efforts to promote the employment of PWDs. At the same time, Ms. Gigi Yiu was presented with the “Life Driver” distinction for her strenuous determination in overcoming the physical obstacles in her daily and work life.
Mr. Peter Crewe, Chief Executive Officer of AIA Hong Kong & Macau, said, “AIA is committed to contributing to society through various community activities, helping people live healthier, longer, better lives. Over the past two years, we have been promoting the employment of PWDs through our LET’S WORK TOGETHER Campaign in various aspects, such as hiring PWDs as well as working with corporate clients and business partners who share the same value to provide internship opportunities and diversified training for higher-educated PWDs. PWDs are important members of our community and we should be aware of their needs. Going forward, we will continue to spread the message of equal employment and encourage PWDs to develop their potential.”
