“AIA MPF Challenge Cup” Ignites Fierce Debate Over Use of MPF As Down-payment For Property

The “AIA MPF Challenge Cup” Inter-school Debate Competition, organized by the Joint School Chinese Debate Society and sponsored by AIA Pension and Trustee Co. Ltd. (“AIA MPF”) for the 9th consecutive year, held its final match on 30 July 2016 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The motion of the final match was “The government should allow citizens to withdraw their MPF benefits to fund the down-payment on their first property”. As a major issue which has attracted significant social attention lately, the motion sparked fierce and impassioned debate. Following several exciting rounds of verbal interplay, Wa Ying College won the championship, followed by Diocesan Boys' School which took second place. The Best Debater Award went to Au Ying Lam of Wa Ying College for her outstanding performance.
This competition gave students an opportunity to hone their debating techniques and helped to develop their analytical and multi-lateral thinking skills. AIA MPF has always been dedicated to promoting investor education. In addition to sponsoring the debate competition, AIA MPF also organised a series of workshops to enhance participants’ understanding of MPF and equip them with smart wealth management techniques.
